The Forecast

The Storm Moved South

Friday morning and let's talk about the people who are still here. Not the ones who "love skiing" in December when it's easy, but the ones ordering a beer inside a literal ski factory in Denver, the ones studying the GFS models as a late-season storm slides into the Wasatch with 13 centimeters in the forecast for a mountain range most people wrote off three weeks ago. Utah just became relevant again, and Snowbird is paying attention. Mammoth picked up 17 centimeters this past week and is still running operations like it's February. Jackson caught 5 centimeters in the last 24 hours with another 6 coming. Meanwhile, Jay Peak is skiing trees this weekend — trees, in late April — with spring corn so dialed it should be illegal, and Killington's Superstar is doing its annual impression of a cockroach that will not die. Scandinavia has 11 centimeters in the three-day forecast and midnight sun. The map has shrunk but the pins that remain are the interesting ones, and Friday is the day to make a plan.

Pacific Northwest closed

Zero snow on the ground at Baker, Crystal, and Stevens with no snowfall in the past week and nothing in the forecast — the PNW season is done. →

Rockies mixed

Utah is the story: 13cm in the three-day forecast for the Cottonwoods as a late-season storm slides south, while Colorado sits at minimal coverage with only 2cm expected — A-Basin holdouts, proceed with caution. →

Northern Rockies / Interior BC thin

Jackson picked up 5cm in the last 24 hours with 6cm more in the forecast, but coverage is minimal at 1cm base; BC is cold (-16°C to -4°C) but dry with no snow expected. →

Northeast spring

Jay Peak is skiing trees with excellent spring corn, Killington's Superstar is grinding moguls into May — temps range from -8°C to 5°C and the skiing is better than the depth sensors suggest. →

Europe mixed

The Alps are holding thin coverage at glacier altitude with temps above freezing in France and Switzerland; Scandinavia is the bright spot with 7cm this past week and 11cm in the three-day forecast under cold temps (-8°C to -6°C). →

Japan closed

Zero snow on the ground across Hokkaido and Honshu with temps at 2–12°C and nothing in the forecast — Japan's season is wrapped. →

The season doesn't end when most people stop paying attention. It ends when you do.
