399 Million and Counting

Wednesday morning and while you're busy debating whether ski season is over, the global ski industry just quietly posted 399 million visits — the biggest season in the history of the sport. Let that settle for a second. Meanwhile, Jackson Hole has 28 centimeters in the three-day forecast, which is a legitimate late-April storm cycle that nobody ordered but everybody deserves. The Sierra caught 11 centimeters in the last 24 hours and California is officially down to two resorts — Palisades and Mammoth — the last ones standing in the entire state. Out East, Killington just announced a bell-to-bell endurance event on Superstar with a thousand bucks on the line, because apparently grinding spring moguls into May wasn't motivation enough. And up in Nova Scotia, Cape Smokey's gondola is still spinning with too much snow to call a closing date, which is the kind of sentence you don't expect to read in late April. The season is smaller now, but the people still in it are the interesting ones.

🔹 The ski industry just had its best season ever. A new Vanat report shows 399 million skier visits globally in 2024–25, smashing the previous record. That number is staggering given the low-snow headlines across the American West — turns out the rest of the world picked up the slack. SnowBrains

🔹 Idaho Fish and Game is begging you not to kidnap baby animals. The annual springtime PSA is back: that fawn sitting alone in the meadow is fine, its mom is nearby, and you are not helping. Dropping

2026 Devinci Spartan — Devinci went back to its roots with the new Spartan: Canadian-made aluminum construction, bigger geometry, and a burlier attitude than its predecessor. Blister's early take says it's a return to what made Devinci interesting in the first place — a real trail bike that doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. If you're already pivoting to two-wheel season (and you should be), this is worth watching.

Pacific Northwest closed

Zero base depth across Baker, Crystal, and Stevens with no new snow and temps in the mid-30s to 40s°F — the PNW season is done. →

Rockies closed

Zero base depth at Alta, Snowbird, Vail, and Wolf Creek with temps ranging from 26°F to 52°F and negligible snowfall — the major Rockies resorts are wrapped for the season, though A-Basin may still be spinning limited terrain. →

Northern Rockies / Interior BC mixed

Jackson Hole picked up 8cm in the last 24 hours with 28cm in the three-day forecast — a legit late-April storm — while Revelstoke and interior BC are dry with minimal coverage; Banff Sunshine and Lake Louise are the Canadian bright spots with up to 15cm expected. →

Northeast spring

Killington's Superstar is grinding moguls into May and Jay Peak is delivering quality spring corn with cold overnight temps (25°F) setting up classic freeze-thaw cycles — this is textbook late-season New England skiing. →

Europe thin

Minimal base across the Alps with zero new snow in the last week and temps hovering around freezing; high-altitude glaciers at Zermatt and Stubai may still offer limited turns, but the valley resorts are done. →

Japan closed

Zero snow depth across Hokkaido and Honshu with temps pushing 8–14°C and no snowfall in the forecast — Japan's season is over. →
